János Kornai
János Kornai was born and educated
in Hungary. In 1986 he joined the
faculty of Harvard University, was
named the Allie S. Freed Professor of
Economics there in 1991, and since
2002 is Emeritus Professor at Harvard.
He is a Permanent Fellow of
Collegium Budapest, Institute for
Advanced Study and, since 1967, he
has been a Research Professor at the
Institute of Economics, Hungarian
Academy of Sciences. He is a
Member of the Board of the
Hungarian National Bank. Professor Kornai has authored many economicsrelated
books and papers, and has
been awarded numerous honorary
doctorates from distinguished
universities around the world.
