Faizel Ismail
is Head of the South African Delegation to the World Trade Organization. He joined the new democratic government of South Africa in 1994 as it began its transition to re-integrate with the world economy and led South Africa’s trade negotiations with the European Union, the Southern African Development Community, the Southern African Customs Union, with a number of bilateral trading partners and the WTO. He joined South Africa’s Mission to Geneva in May 2002. He has written numerous articles on trade and development, including

. He holds an M.Phil. in Development Studies from the University of Sussex, United Kingdom, and an LLB from the University of Natal.
